U.S. Virgin Islands residents and business owners will have opportunities to learn about how the Virgin Islands Economic Development Authority (VIEDA) facilitates economic opportunity and share their ideas and recommendations on how programs under the VIEDA can be improved for the USVI community at Town Hall meetings in January 2020 territory-wide.
Attendees will also have opportunities to ask questions and speak one-on-one with VIEDA team members.
Established since 2001, the VIEDA is a semi-autonomous governmental instrumentality responsible for the promotion of economic development in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Four entities exist under its umbrella: the Economic Development Commission, Economic Development Bank, Economic Development Park Corporation and the Enterprise Zone Commission.
These entities provide a wide range of programs and services, including but not limited to, tax incentives for large and small businesses; tax credits and exemptions for property and neighborhood revitalization; low-interest loan and loan-guarantee programs for local, small and medium-sized businesses and space for lease by businesses at industrial parks on St. Thomas and St. Croix. VIEDA offices are located on St. Thomas and St. Croix.
VIEDA Chief Executive Officer Kamal I. Latham; Assistant Chief Executive Officer Wayne L. Biggs, Jr.; Managing Director, Economic Development, Margarita A. Benjamin and other team members will lead the Town Hall meetings with a discussion about economic development and the purpose of the VIEDA in the Territory. Economic development practitioners from other VIEDA divisions will also be present to share information and answer questions about its programs and services.
About the Virgin Islands Economic Development Authority:
The Virgin Islands Economic Development Authority (VIEDA) is a semi-autonomous governmental instrumentality. It promotes economic growth, job creation, and wealth generation in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The VIEDA assumes, integrates and unifies the functions of these four entities: Economic Development Commission, Virgin Islands Economic Development Park Corporation, Economic Development Bank and the Enterprise Zone Commission. The VIEDA accomplishes its mission by attracting investors to the Territory to establish or relocate their business in the U.S. Virgin Islands. It also provides financial assistance for new and existing small to medium-sized businesses in the Territory and assists V.I. residents and business owners with rehabilitating their properties located in distressed areas that were once vibrant economic centers of activity in the Territory. Learn more about the USVIEDA at www.usvieda.org or send an email to [email protected].
