Shift in Road Closure Announced as WAPA Undergrounding Electrical Project Advances

ST. CROIX, U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS — The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority (“WAPA” or “the Authority”) advises the motoring public of an upcoming shift in the road closure along Queen Mary Highway (Centerline Road) as part of the next phase of the Queen Mary Highway Electrical Undergrounding Project.

Starting Monday, July 28, 2025, Queen Mary Highway will be closed in both directions between East Airport Road and the UVI/St. Croix Educational Complex traffic light.

This closure is necessary to allow WAPA Contractor J. Benton Construction to continue the installation of underground electrical lines — work that will enhance the reliability and storm resilience of St. Croix’s power grid.

WAPA aims to complete this phase of the project before schools reopen, minimizing disruptions to student transportation and daily commutes.

Motorists are urged to exercise caution, follow posted detour signs, and adhere to instructions from flaggers to ensure a safe environment for both workers and drivers.

WAPA sincerely thanks the community for its ongoing patience and cooperation as this critical infrastructure project moves forward.
