Derelict Vessel Removal Continues in the St. Thomas/St. John District

Commissioner Jean-Pierre L. Oriol of the Department of Planning & Natural Resources is excited to notify the public of the continuation of vessel removals in the St. Thomas/St. John District.

The project is funded by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Marine Debris Program and is intended to assist the territory in its recovery from the 2017 hurricane season.

The Department identified thirty vessels territory-wide. So far, nine have been removed in the St. Thomas/St. John district. The selected contractors will also collect and dispose of marine debris surrounding the vessels.

Debris removals around Water Island are nearing completion, and contractors are working in the St. Thomas East End Reserve and Coral Harbor, St. John.
