Emergency Relief Projects Underway in the St. Thomas/St. John District
ST. THOMAS – The Department of Public Works, in conjunction with its partner Eastern Federal Lands Highway Division, would like to inform the public that work has begun on a series of Emergency Relief (ER) road projects in the St. Thomas/St. John district.
Trade West Construction, Inc., the selected contractor, mobilized last week and began work on Route 303, in the Upper Lindberg Bay/Contant area of St. Thomas. This site has been the topic of much conversation as it prevented access for residents in the area. Work on this project involves the removal of damaged walls and earthen material, installation of gabion walls, backfilling, as well as restoration of the roadway. As this contractor was selected for a series of ER projects, work will progress in the sequential nature as follows:
Route 303 — Upper Lindberg Bay/Upper Contant
Route 40 — St. Peter Mountain Road
Route 37 — Hull Bay Road
Route 1 — Centerline Road in St. John.
“I am pleased that these long-overdue repairs are now taking place”, said Commissioner Nelson Petty Jr., P.E. “Many of these sites present hazardous driving conditions, so upon completion, residents will feel safer traversing our roadways.”
All four projects are expected to be completed by the second quarter of next year.
