U.S. Virgin Islands -The Virgin Islands Office of Disaster Recovery has released its 2024 Annual Report entitled “The Road Ahead,” – a comprehensive account of the status and overall progress of rebuilding the territory from the devastation of the 2017 hurricanes Irma and Maria.
The Office of Disaster Recovery, (ODR) serves as the center of coordination for federal funding awarded to support recovery efforts. The 2024 Annual Report outlines the significant progress the territory has made under the Bryan-Roach Administration. Approximately 1600 projects are distributed across four main programs to include FEMA Public Assistance and Hazard Mitigation Grant programs, the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery and the Federal Highway Administration-Emergency Repair Program.
The report highlights Governor Albert Bryan Jr.’s top priority projects, which include schools, health and hospitals, roads, utilities, and housing, identifying the successes and the realities of the challenges the territory has faced along the way. Over 1,000 projects have been completed and 350 are underway in different phases of execution. The report explains in detail ODR’s responsibilities, processes, programs and initiatives, and most importantly the $23 billion of federal funding that is making the recovery possible. Director Adrienne L. Williams-Octalien stated, “The Office of Disaster Recovery prides itself on steadfastly adhering to its mission to secure the funds, spend the funds, and spend the funds correctly.”
The report thoroughly explains the significant impact that the recovery projects have had on the territory’s economy. “For Fiscal Year 2024, recovery project expenditures, generated over $16.5 million in GRT as a result of $330.2 million of expenditures.” “The 2024 report serves as a testament to our continued commitment of transparency.
