Virgin Islands State Historic Preservation Office Recovery Program Update

 

Commissioner Jean-Pierre L. Oriol, of the Department of Planning and Natural Resources, is pleased to report that the VI Historic Recovery Program closed its intake for Step 1 Questionnaire Applications on March 31, 2021.

The Department received 229 applications in total; 119 from St. Thomas, 83 from St. Croix, and 27 from St. John.

Pursuant to the National Park Service rules and regulations of the federal grant award, applications are being reviewed by program staff to verify whether properties submitted are historic and eligible for funding review, this process can take up to 90 days.

Commissioner Oriol encourages applicants to visit DPNR’s website at dpnr.vi.gov, to review the Virgin Islands State Historic Preservation Office (VISHPO) Grants Information Page for additional information regarding the grant process.

“I would like to thank applicants for their continued patience, understanding and cooperation during this application review phase,” Commissioner Oriol concluded.
