VIDE Announces Weekend and Holiday Closure of
Charlotte Amalie High School Campus for Ongoing Demolition Work

The Virgin Islands Department of Education (VIDE) announces that the Charlotte Amalie High School (CAHS) campus will be closed to the public on weekends and government holidays throughout the month of April as demolition work continues on the school campus.

As part of Phase I of the CAHS Demolition Project, which began in February, crews are making significant progress on the first major school reconstruction project for the island of St. Thomas. The focus during the month of April will be on the demolition of Building A.

To ensure the safety of the public, students, faculty, and staff, the campus will be officially closed to all activities every weekend, beginning Saturday, April 5, 2025, through the end of the month, with closures also extending to government holidays during Easter and Carnival breaks.

VIDE recognizes the community’s continued use of the CAHS campus for various activities, including walking the track, utilizing the auditorium, and participating in public events. However, for the safety and efficiency of the demolition process, all people, events, and activities will be prohibited from accessing the school campus during these times.

Safety is our number one priority. We are committed to ensuring that this demolition phase is executed with the highest level of care and in full compliance with all safety protocols and federal requirements.

Demolition activities began with Building C on the north end, then progressed to Building B, and now continue to Building A. Fencing, dust control systems, and other environmental precautions have been in place since the start of the project. Areas of active construction and disturbance have been clearly separated from the operating portions of the campus and surrounding community.

While the campus will be closed to the public on weekends and holidays, CAHS will remain open and fully operational on all scheduled school days. There will be no impact on students, faculty, or staff during school hours, and strict safety measures will continue to be enforced.

The contractor remains committed to best practices, including continuous water spraying, covering materials, and maintaining clean roadways to minimize dust and debris. All demolition work is being closely monitored to maintain a safe environment and to keep the project on schedule.

VIDE thanks the community for its cooperation and understanding as it advances this critical project to deliver a modern, safe, and resilient learning environment for current and future generations of students.
