VIWAPA Announces Road Closures and Traffic Changes for Frederiksted

as Water Rehabilitation Project Enters Second Phase

ST. CROIX, USVI- To accommodate ongoing work associated with the Frederiksted water rehabilitation project on St. Croix, the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority advises the motoring public of various road closures and the rerouting of traffic during the week of February 1-6, 2021. The traffic flow changes and road closures will be in effect each day from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Throughout the week the intersections of King and Queen Streets will be closed and detours marked. King Street closures will be in effect from Monday, February 1st to Wednesday, February 3rd while the Queen Street closures will take place from Wednesday, February 3rd to Saturday, February 6th.

The road closures and traffic flow changes are necessary to allow WAPA contractor, Leumas Engineering, to connect various pipelines across the intersections. Water service interruptions are not anticipated.

Motorists who must traverse in and around the work areas are asked to exercise caution and adhere to posted directional signs for the safety of the crew, pedestrians, and other motorists.

The ongoing second phase of the Frederiksted Waterline Rehabilitation Project includes replacing ductile iron waterlines with new PVC lines. When completed, customers will experience improved water quality from a more reliable and efficient potable water system.
