WAPA Contractor Commences Staging and Mobilization
for Feeder 5A Underground Electrical Project

ST. THOMAS, U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS – The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority (“WAPA” or the “Authority”) would like to inform the public of the upcoming Feeder 5A Electrical Underground Project set to begin on Monday, February 3, 2025. Haugland, VI will be the contractor conducting the work on behalf of WAPA. This project is aimed at enhancing the reliability and efficiency of our electrical systems by transitioning Feeder 5A from an overhead to an underground distribution system.

  • Cyril E. King Airport Beacon
  • Water Island
  • FAA Facilities
  • Emerald Beach Beachcomber
  • WAPA Fuel Dock
  • WAPA Tanks
  • WAPA LPG Facility

What to Expect:

  • Project Timeline: The contractor will begin staging materials and preparing for construction starting Monday, February 3, 2025, and anticipate physical construction activities commencing Monday, February 17, 2025, with substantial completion anticipated by November 2025.
  • Impact on Services: There may be occasional disruptions in electrical service during certain phases of the project. We will work to minimize any inconvenience and will notify affected areas/customers in advance via WAPA alerts.
  • Traffic and Roadway Changes: Please note that public notice will be provided, and traffic control plans will be issued prior to any traffic disruptions. Please drive with caution in the impacted areas and follow the directions of the flaggers and traffic management personnel.
